While Shane Taylor has now broken out on his own, that wasn’t always the case for the powerhouse. He came into ROH alongside Keith Lee as the Pretty Boy Killers, but then after Lee left for bigger things, Taylor would go under the wing of Kenny King. As part of The Rebellion, Taylor really found himself and he owes his success now to that faction.
But now, Taylor meets Kenny King in the ring to climb the ranks to get a shot at the ROH World Championship, and Taylor needs to win to build his own legacy. Taylor knows how good he is now, unlike their last match. This isn’t some kid growing as a performer, it’s one of the best TV champions the company ever had.
King is a bit focused on the Pure Title though, after losing by decision to Josh Woods, and is seeking legal action to fix that. Will King be focused enough to win this match?
Power Means Nothing If You Can’t Catch Your Opponent
Code of Honor wouldn’t happen, Taylor refusing the handshake and taking a solid jab to the face. Taylor would try to swing back, but missed King. King threw some kicks and was caught, being rolled to the mat and dodging a knee strike. Taylor would be hit with the Eddy Gordo Kick from King, but came right back with some quick punches, all of them being dodged.
King would have another kick blocked and was sent to the mat, stomped but got right back up and went for some strikes. After a brief separation, King would get cocky, and taunt Taylor. Taylor responded by nearly knocking him out with a big forearm to the face.
King was in-control until this point, but he was being thrown around the ring with ease. Taylor ran into King in the corner with a lariat, and then hit another big strike. Every time King got some ground again, another strike from Taylor dropped him.
Kenny King Is In Trouble
King would finally find his footing and rattle Taylor with some big kicks and dropped him in the corner with some right hands. Taylor showed some agility and ran through King, regaining control. King was rocked with a short arm clothesline, before hitting a big leg drop.
This one was clearly trending poorly for King, and Taylor kept the beatdown coming. He slipped to the apron and tried for a springboard, only to be stopped again by a headbutt.
King was pulled into the ring for a cutter, but managed to kick out at two. Another burst of energy came to King, getting a big spinning wheel kick as we go to commercial break.
Shane Taylor Kicks Into High Gear
Back from the break, King was back into this and got a German Suplex on Taylor, some shotgun knees and a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. King would try to set up the Royal Flush, but Taylor slipped out and got rolled up for a two count.
Taylor blocked the superkick attempt, rolled him forward and got the knee strike. A big package piledriver, and this was as good as over, but you don’t take out Kenny King that easily. King blocked another knee strike and got the T-Bone Suplex, and Taylor got fired up with some trash talking. He’d pick King up, drop him with the driver and this one was through.
Shane Taylor now puts himself in a position to face Brody King for a shot at the ROH World Championship. They’d shake hands after the match, then hug it out. Respect was earned here.
