Brian Pillman Jr. has been coming into his own over the last couple of years, and fans are taking notice as his popularity has been growing as well.
For many of us, he’s a mirror image of his father in many ways. Brian Pillman was an amazing talent we lost way too early in the 90s.
He’s best known for being part of the new Hart Foundation in the WWE and teaming with Steve Austin (pre Stone Cold years) as the Hollywood Blonds in WCW.
Homage yet new
Like his father, Brian Pillman Jr. has loads of talent on the mic and in the ring, and this past week he made another appearance on AEW Dynamite with Griff Garrison as the Varsity Blonds.

While they lost to FTR (Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood), former AEW tag champions and one of the top teams in the world, they made a good showing and nearly won.
The future looks bright for the Varsity Blonds in AEW, and Pillman’s own star is rising in what many may be considered his home promotion — Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
Making his own name
Pillman Jr. has been climbing the ranks in OVW (owned and operated by Al Snow) and at the promotion’s pay-per-view, Christmas Chaos, on December 5, 2020, he won the OVW Heavyweight Championship.
To do so, he had to defeat Tony Gunn, who set a record for the longest title reign to close out their feud, but there’s been a twist.
Until a couple of months ago, the Heavyweight Championship was the top title in the company, but with OVW being carried nationally on TV a new top title was introduced — the OVW National Heavyweight Championship.
The new title was announced August 20, 2020 and was won following a tournament by Jesse Godderz on September 29, 2020.
Because of this, the Heavyweight Champion is considered the number one contender for the National title.
At first, we were unsure if it transferred with the title change, but that’s been clarified and Brian Pilman Jr. will be Jesse Godderz’s next opponent in a championship match.
Too soon?
While it may come off as Pillman Jr.’s being pushed too fast, there’s little denying he’s earned it and proven himself to be capable and a fan favorite.
While he may not defeat Godderz, between performing in OVW and AEW, it’s only a matter of time before Pillman Jr.’s star rises, and we’re sure his father is looking own proud of what he’s accomplished.
