At AEW Full Gear 2020, The Young Bucks finally met their lofty expectations in AEW when they finally became AEW World Tag Team Champions. Now, they have their first test as champions against an upstart team in The Acclaim. Max Caster & Anthony Bowens have been on a roll, working their way to the #5 spot in the tag team rankings on AEW Dark, and cemented their status with a win over SCU last week.

Now they have a chance to already become champions, but they might need a holiday miracle. They’ve built up an 8 match win streak, but the Young Bucks are at 7 in a row, against much bigger teams like FTR.

    The Acclaimed Show Their Worth

Caster started up with Matt, grabbed the wrist but got beaten down. He regained control with clubbing blows, before forgetting just how slick Matt Jackson is. Nick would be tagged in, and they’d hit their classic double dropkick on both members of The Acclaimed.

This match already went outside, and after a spear to Bowens, they hit Risky Business on the outside of the ring! Back in the ring, Bowens was isolated in their corner until Caster tripped Matt up. The Acclaimed went to work on the arm of Matt before hitting a double snapmare and kicking him in the head.

They let Matt get some speed and missed a blind tag to Nick Jackson, who ran through The Acclaimed, hitting everything down to his slingshot facebuster & asai moonsault combo. Bowens barely got the knees up to block a swanton bomb, and then Nick got dropped on the apron with a backdrop as we went to a break.

Throughout the break, The Acclaimed targetted the back as they isolated Nick Jackson in their corner. If they could keep him in their corner long enough, they’ll win. Bowens made a veteran move by pulling Matt off the apron just before he was tagged in, before tagging in and going to work on Nick.

But The Young Bucks Are Truly The Top Team

Nick would manage to slip under a double lariat from The Acclaimed, and Matt came in hot. He’d take out both members of the challenging team with a double DDT, before focusing on Caster. Matt faked him out to get him outside, and Nick hit a PK to drop him.

Matt would get the Locomotion Northern Lights suplexes into the sharpshooter on Bowens. Caster was unable to break this up before being pulled out by Nick and put in a sharpshooter of his own! Bowens managed to pull himself to the rope to break the hold, before being dropped with a springboard variant of The Doomsday Device.

Nick went up top, but Caster tripped him up. He’d naii a superplex, roll through to lift another suplex, and Bowens soared in with a crossbody. Matt would tag in and superkick Caster, Bowens hit an elbow and Nick superkicked him.

The referee got a superkick by accident, Caster hit a low blow and Bowens used the boombox to the face. Replacement referee was too slow, and Matt kicked out. They went for Indytaker, but Bucks know how to counter that one. Bowens was powerbombed through a table, Caster got hit with the BTE trigger and this one was through.
