Here’s a quick rundown on what you can expect from tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw.
Jerry “The King” Lawler presents the Divorce Court with Rusev and Lana.
Yep, the King’s Court is being re-named specially for this angle. Bobby Lashley isn’t being advertised as part of it, but there’s absolutely no way on Earth that he doesn’t appear. This has been one of WWE’s wackiest storylines, so expect more of that here tonight.
Also yeesh, having Jerry Lawler preside over a segment called the Divorce Court… little on the nose! If that ain’t a rib, I don’t know what is.
Becky Lynch will be facing Kairi Sane in non-title action.
Pretty cool first time one-on-one match-up there. Becky did come up on the losing end of a tag match against the Kabuki Warriors a couple of weeks ago, and is currently still looking for a new challenger so we’ll see if anything comes of this. But even if it’s just a standalone match, it should be a fun one.
Drew McIntyre and Ricochet will be having a rematch from last week.
Seven days ago, McIntyre made his return from injury with a really good match and solid win over Ricochet, which he capped off with a post-match beatdown. Should be some more good action here though I kinda hope they don’t go the usual 50/50 route. I know better than to expect anything else, of course. But there’s no reason for McIntyre to not be in the main event scene as we speak, he should be getting momentum in a hurry.
Regardless, you can’t possibly get a bad match out of these two.
And in the likely main event, Universal Champion Seth Rollins will be facing Erick Rowan in a non-title Falls Count Anywhere match.
Well that’s certainly a welcome-to-Raw for Rowan.
So it goes without saying that a champion in a non-title Falls Count Anywhere match is already a little strange. And it’s of course a big stip match with no story behind it, atleast on the surface. Now of course Rowan is a former follower of Bray Wyatt, so it’d be easy enough to tie him into Rollins’ feud with the Fiend if need be. That might atleast get some passing mention on commentary.
But the idea here is obviously to give a preview of what’s to come at Crown Jewel, and allow Rollins to show he’s ready by having the same stip against the next-best-thing to wrestling Bray Wyatt.
I’ve heard of worse ideas. And Rowan has quietly shown a propensity for big time matches throughout this year, particularly in arena spanning brawls. He’s gained an aptitude for this environment, and against someone like Seth Rollins, there’s no reason this can’t be a really good, perhaps even great Monday Night Raw main event. I’m interested, if nothing else. Gotta say though, by taking this stip, Seth is reeeeaaally asking for a Fiend run-in… thankfully the monster respects the brand split, right?
The show will be airing from St. Louis, so you can expect Randy Orton to be making a significant appearance. And I’ll be giving you the live play-by-play later tonight!
