Ever since returning to NXT and joining up with Johnny Gargano, Austin Theory has been better than ever. He’s got more confidence than ever, and Gargano has kept him on track. Tonight, he faces former NXT North American Champion and thorn in the side of the Garganos, Leon Ruff. They last met in singles on the November 7th, 2020 episode of NXT, where Theory won in just under two minutes before being attacked by Dexter Lumis.
Austin Theory Shows His Power
Ruff led a Theory sucks chant, before trying for the headlock and being outpowered. Theory caught a crossbody attempt into a fall away slam, but Ruff landed on his feet and nailed a dropkick. Another kick to the side of the head of Theory just served to annoy, as he’d send Ruff face first into the turnbuckles and nail a back suplex.
Ruff would be flung across the ring hard, and Theory just had to keep Ruff underneath and he’d win with ease. A big shot to the jaw rocked Ruff, who was fighting to get back to his feet, only to be bulldozed with a back elbow. Theory set up the ATL, and Ruff slipped out.
Ruff was pulled back up, but would turn it into a roll up, getting a two count. Theory was rocked with a kick, then Ruff got rid of Gargano with a superkick who got involved, and hit the missile dropkick. Gargano got involved a second time, and this time it worked out for Theory.
Leon Ruff Outsmarts The Way
On the outside, Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart took out Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae, before Ruff faked being punched by Gargano and had him ejected. Back in the ring, he’d hit the twisting cutter on Theory, who was saved by his foot on the bottom rope.
Ruff got vaulting body press to the outside, but Theory caught him and dropped him over the barricade. Back in the ring, the ATL landed and Theory got a big win for The Way. After the match, he’d hit a second one on Ruff to send a message.
Theory tried to grab the ring bell, only to be stopped by Lumis who yanked some of his hair out. Will Lumis & Ruff team up to take on The Way? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
