On the 205th episode of 205 Live, Curt Stallion earned a shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar. Despite this, he’s been flat out ignored by the champion, even after beating Raul Mendoza in a match.
After Stallion came to the aid of the Lucha House Party, Escobar realized Stallion was a threat, and had Wilde & Mendoza beat him down. However, Stallion got back up, and is still ready for this championship match. Could he end Escobar’s reign at 245 days?
Santos Escobar Is Distracted
The crowd was behind Stallion to start this match, and they’d lock up hard in the middle of the ring. Escobar got some clubbing blows and kicked Stallion while he was down, and shrugged off a huge blow to the chest from Stallion. A tight cravate was applied, before Escobar took Stallion down into an Octopus Lock.
He knows that Stallion thrives on momentum, so he’d just keep him grounded. Scarlett was at ringside looming over Escobar, who took a verbal shot at Karrion Kross recently. Escobar would notice her, but remain on pace in the match, getting a big vertical suplex.
He’d lock eyes with her as he applied a hammerlock, but with his head elsewhere, Stallion got moving only to take a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Escobar again took his eyes off the ball, and got rolled up for a two count. He’d roll out of the ring and look around the arena for Kross, before we went to a commercial break.
Curt Stallion Fights Until The End
Coming back from the break, Stallion was on the ground outside after taking a back suplex onto the steel steps. Escobar was in firm control over the rookie in Stallion, but couldn’t put him away. Stallion was put into a modified single leg boston crab, before moving calmly into a choke using the arm of Stallion against him.
Escobar lost control of Stallion in the corner, before getting some big knee strikes to regain control. Stallion came back with a German Suplex, and some big rolling forearms, before setting the Shibata Dropkick up. Escobar slipped out of ring, so Stallion instead just dove through the middle and bottom rope for a dive.
Stallion nailed a top drop splash, and set up that corner DDT before being flung into the corner with a counter suplex. Escobar responded to a headbutt with a dropkick, then nailed the Phantom Driver and Legado for the win.
The presence of Scarlett took enough focus away from the match to be an issue, with it being a set up for a match with Kross. Despite this, the final few minutes showed how good of an underdog Stallion can be. Escobar is a great champion, and him reigning on will be the right choice. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
After the match, Kross tore through Wilde & Mendoza, before Kross gave Escobar a chance to rethink picking this fight. His reign will continue, but what does Karrion Kross have in mind for Escobar? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
