NJPW Castle Attack Card Announced, Two Nights Of Action Ahead On Feb. 27th & 28th

The dust is still settling from New Beginning in Hiroshima, but it’s already time to move forward to Castle Attack. New Japan Pro Wrestling returns to Osaka Jo Hall on February 27th & 28th, and we have the cards announced early. Night one is centered around grudge matches, while Night Two brings the championship stakes. Let’s see what NJPW has planned for later this month!

Night One Of Castle Attack Headlined By Kazuchika Okada vs. EVIL & Jay White vs. Tomohiro Ishii

NJPW decided that there are too many heated feuds to let them keep going, so Night One of Castle Attack can settle some scores ahead of the New Japan Cup in March. There will be five singles matches, starting with a set between Guerillas of Destiny and their challengers on Night Two. Tanga Loa gets YOSHI-HASHI after being rolled up in Hiroshima, while Tama Tonga takes on Hirooki Goto, who he has an 0-5 singles record against.

Next up is Toru Yano defending the KOPW 2021 provisional championship against Chase Owens, who is just mad that Yano got to enter the match to win the title by doing nothing at Wrestle Kingdom. Things get interesting with Jay White vs. Tomohiro Ishii, two of the best wrestlers on the planet today, who last met in singles when Ishii shut White out from the G1 Finals. White has been obsessed with Ishii since returning earlier this month, and now meets him in singles.

Finally, after weeks of wanting a singles match with EVIL, and getting it only for Dick Togo to force a DQ in Hiroshima, Kazuchika Okada gets his hands on EVIL. It’s fitting this goes down in Osaka, as they’ve met a few times in that building, EVIL even getting his first win over Okada there. With this being a main event match, NJPW might take action to remove Dick Togo from the picture.

Night Two Brings The Championship Matches

Outside of the KOPW Championship, night one is more about grudges. Night two brings four title matches though. Guerillas of Destiny will defend their IWGP Heavyweight Championships against YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto firstly. This comes after G.O.D failed to take their six man titles alongside White. Hiroshi Tanahashi makes his first defense of the NEVER Openweight Championship against Great-O-Khan in a Wrestle Kingdom rematch, after O-Khan attacked him after his match with Shingo Takagi.

El Phantasmo gets a chance to become IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion in the semi-main event, after wanting to kick Takahashi’s head off following Takahashi vs. SHO in Hiroshima. They also meet on the road to this even. Phantasmo & Ishimori weill defend their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Championships against Takahashi & BUSHI on February 25th.

The main event is the most interesting match on the card, as it could fix the Double Gold issue in NJPW. Fans have not liked the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships being defended as one, as it takes a major belt away. Tetsuya Naito agreed, and just wanted Kota Ibushi to put the Intercontinental Championship on the line for Castle Attack, a wish that was granted. If Naito wins, he becomes champion. But if Ibushi wins, he wants to properly merge the two championships together.
