The Elimination Chamber saw two titles change hands and both were on the Raw brand, so WWE Raw Preview is expecting some interesting changes to happen tonight.
The first title change came when Riddle pilled John Morrison to win the United States Championship.
This was news only because Keith Lee was removed from the match due to injury and John Morrison took his place.
Morrison’s been Raw’s glorified jobber since returning, so him being added was an obvious sign that Riddle would win the title since Lashley dominated him whenever they met in the ring.
This will lead to either Lashley reclaiming the championship after squashing Riddle tonight, Riddle will miraculously overcome Lashley, or Riddle will move onto another feud.
He could feud with Morrison, though we think this is doubtful as we believe Morrison will be headed to NXT soon to be on the same brand as his wife, Taya Valkyrie, per WWE practice of having couples on the same brand.
Another possibility is another member of the Hurt Business since they’ll want their gold back. Most likely, tonight will mark the closure of Riddle and Lashley’s feud after a quick match.
One thing WWE Raw Preview expects to see is for Riddle to be the standard fighting champion that’s become a norm the last year.
Something’s missing
We think he’ll give others that may not have had a chance previous as shot at the title and try to lift them up, though we’re not sure he’ll be able to do that.
To be honest, since coming to the main roster, something feels off about him. He does a great job of selling but it feels like something’s missing.
Whether it’s his gimmick or the way it’s being displayed makes it more enjoyable to watch him get mauled by Lashley than not, and that’s a distinctive change from his NXT days.
It could just be us, but his Jeff Spicoli (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) type of character makes him appear more goofy and cartoonish than it may meant to be, and not in a good way.
He may need that serious feud with someone to really bring him out and help his persona grow, and we won’t be surprised if that someone is Damian Priest.
Though Priest is a new addition to Raw, he’d offer Riddle someone he’s familiar with and the two could grow together and settle in better.
WWE Raw Preview aren’t sold on Riddle being ready for the United States Championship, but he may surprise us. With any luck, we’re in for a fun ride with him at the US Championship helm.
