The date has finally been set, as the much-anticipated trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will take place on July 10th in Las Vegas. However, one of the biggest controversies surrounding the fight took place this week, as Poirier alleged that McGregor had not honoured his promise of donating money to his charity after their second fight back in January.
The money that McGregor was supposed to donate to the charity wasn’t paid, and that led to a tense back and forth between the two UFC stars this past week. However, Poirier looks to have ended the row in its track by posting an apology.
UFC News: Poirier Apologises For Going Public
Poirier was clearly disappointed in the Irish superstar earlier in the week, and didn’t hold back when coming back at McGregor. However, on Wednesday, he posted a short message apologizing to fans for making the private matter between the two UFC stars very public. He also mentioned in the tweet that he has big news coming up, and is looking forward to the fight between the pair in a couple of months time.

McGregor hasn’t responded to the statement from Poirier, but has admitted that he is looking forward to getting back into the octagon with Poirier according to another tweet. It looks set to be one of the biggest UFC fights of the year, as McGregor looks to avenge the defeat he suffered against Poirier earlier in the year.
UFC News: Khabib Gets Involved
Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov couldn’t help but get involved in the bitter war of words between the two and mocked McGregor on a social media post. The Russian has shared the octagon with both men. One of his final fights came against Poirier, who he beat by submission. He also famously beat McGregor in an explosive fight in the octagon.
Poirier vs McGregor will be taking place at UFC 264 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, in front of as Dana White admitted, a full house. The undercard for the event is already scheduled to have a women’s flyweight bout between Jennifer Maia and Jessica Eye, while a featherweight clash between Illia Topuria and Ryan Hall has also been announced.
