Neither Ilja Dragunov or Dave Mastiff have had the best luck lately in NXT UK. Dragunov is suffering the psychological effects of his match with WALTER, while Mastiff simply can’t seem to win a match, and is currently on a four match loss streak, even losing to the likes of Sam Gradwell. Tonight, they meet one on one in the ring, and will give each other a chance to blow off steam with a hard fought fight.
Dave Mastiff Gets Bloodied Up, Referee Stops The Fight Before It Gets Going
Dragunov ran right in as the bell rang, getting a running kick to the face of Mastiff. He’d look to maul Mastiff, but a single blow from the big man dropped him. Dragunov went for another kick, before looking for the German Suplex. Mastiff was able to keep himself grounded, before driving Dragunov into the corner.
Dragunov hopped onto the back of Mastiff and nailed some hard elbow strikes to the face. Mastiff dropped back to crush Dragunov into the mat to get himself free, but then the bell would ring. Everyone looked very confused, until you saw a pool of blood coming from the nose of Dave Mastiff.
This one was smartly called by the referee, with Ilja Dragunov being named the winner via stoppage. You hate to see a promising fight end like this, but this won’t be the last time these two clash. We’d see a replay, and this came about from a stiff elbow strike to the face from earlier in this short match.
How do you go about rating a match that only ran just over a minute and thirty seconds and ended in a stoppage? We were on the path to something good, but we’ll never quite know how this match could have went. It feels unfair to both men to give it a low rating due to the circumstances. So this one won’t be rated on this day. Match Rating: N/A
