While some of the MMA world seems to be thinking about trying their hand at boxing against YouTubers, Khabib Nurmagomedov has his sights set elsewhere.
Khabib is enjoying his retirement from mixed martial arts, but admits he would like to try another sport. To the surprise of many, it wouldn’t be a combat sport, but soccer. During a recent Facebook Q&A session, Nurmagomedov talked about what he calls his “first love.”

“If some clubs offer me, if they make me an interesting (offer), I will accept it. Soccer for me is the best sport. I think soccer is on another level. I like MMA, I like to fight and compete with people, with the best fighters in the world, but for me, soccer is the best sport.”
It’s no secret to anyone that Khabib is passionate about soccer. In fact, he came to practice it during his childhood and adolescence. It’s also common to see him in stadiums at major events.
A couple of weeks ago, a couple of Russian third division clubs expressed interest in Nurmagomedov. After Khabib uploaded some videos where he is seen playing soccer, the president of Dynamo Legion sent a contract to the former UFC champion. According to reports from the RT portal, the FC Kamaz club also reportedly made him an offer.
“Many soccer clubs have offered me, but I was a little hesitant to become a footballer because being a footballer is different from MMA. When you have to fight in MMA and when you have to play in soccer, they are different. But I don’t know. If some clubs offer me something interesting, I’m going to accept it because this is my childhood dream. I love soccer, I follow it since I was a kid. Soccer is my first love.”
