Sam Gradwell is proving to be one of the more steady names on the NXT UK roster. He’s picked some big fights with the likes of Trent Seven & Dave Mastiff, and next on his list is Gallus. This week he faces Wolfgang, after he barged into the office of Sid Scalla while Gallus was in a meeting. Wolfgang called dibs, and now he gets a chance to beat down Gradwell.
Wolfgang Shows Gradwell Is All Bark, No Bite
The opening lockup saw Wolfgang get a headlock. Gradwell would shove him off, but just get wiped out with a shoulder tackle. Wolfgang was next to take a headlock, but was able to get wrist control and take Gradwell down. This one was turning into a fight as Wolfgang hit some lariats and threw Gradwell across the ring.
A crossbody into the corner stunned Gradwell, but as Wolfgang went up top, Gradwell hit a throat chop and sent Wolfgang to the floor. Back in the ring, Gradwell applied a cobra clutch in the middle of the ring. Wolfgang fought free and hit some jabs, before hitting the double axe handle off the top rope. A suplex into a cutter got a two count, before Gradwell fought out and hit a running STO.
Wolfgang sent Gradwell outside with an elbow strike, but Gradwell played opossum, only to be pulled face first into the ropes. Having created the distance needed, Wolfgang flipped over the ropes into a spear for the win.
This was an unremarkable but solid match between heavyweights. There simply wasn’t much of a story or chemistry in the mix, and neither man is a top level worker. A fine TV match, but that’s in. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
Kenny Williams Is A Proud Scumbag
Ever since turning on his partner Amir Jordan and sending him packing from the brand, Kenny Williams has been focused. With a new look and attitude, he’s been climbing the ranks of NXT UK, and tonight will face Danny Jones one on one.
He’d quickly get a wrist lock on Jones, before Jones took him down. A knee strike to the stomach took the rangey Jones down, before he’d get caught sliding through his legs into a toss. Williams slipped outside and yanked Jones into the ropes, finally downing his opponent. He’d hit some hip drops and rake the eyes with his boot, before some crossface blows in the ropes.
A dropkick to the back of the head took Jones down, and it was becoming clear that Williams was in complete control. Jones changed this when he countered a surfboard hold, and hit an enziguri before a big boot. Williams would hit the chop block and the Bad Luck driver, and it was over.
Kenny Williams since turning heel hasn’t quite hit right. He’s impressive in the ring, but his heel schtick isn’t there yet. It might come together in time, but he needs to get to bigger matches first. This one was 50/50 in offense, and too short to accomplish much. Match Rating: 1/5 (*)
