At this point, it’s easy to forget what brought Corey Graves to WWE. He’s been on commentary since his days in NXT, and has been both called the best commentator in WWE and also the worst by fans. However, Graves didn’t get signed to the company to do commentary. He was originally signed on to wrestle, and many years later is looking to perhaps get back to what he started.
Corey Graves Was Taken Out Of The Ring Due To Frequent Concussions
In the early days of NXT, Corey Graves was a common sight in the ring. Having formerly proved himself in Ring of Honor, Graves had some serious skills in the ring, often drawing comparisons to CM Punk. We never got to see him reach his full potential within the WWE ring however, as he’d suffer a string of concussions.
Eventually he was told WWE wouldn’t clear him to re-enter the ring, and offered him a chance to try his hand at commentary. He applied himself and trained hard, and since 2014 that has been his role. However, after wrestling for 14 years before getting pulled from the ring, maybe the passion never left.
Others Have Returned From Similar Issues
Someone else who was put into a similar position was Christian. Christian was medically retired by WWE following concussion related issues, only to be cleared for a return in 2021. He was in the Royal Rumble where he got to reunite with Edge, before signing a contract with All Elite Wrestling where he’s been wrestling on a frequent basis.
Seeing as fans have noticed similarities, Graves himself might have realized something. He’d take to Twitter and say the following. “I was put on this earth to do something. What I’m doing is not it.” It would be frustrating sitting on the sidelines as Daniel Bryan, Edge and Christian all made their return to the ring after being sidelined by WWE. While others like Tyson Kidd or Jason Jordan might not have a chance due to the nature of their injuries, Graves might be able to pull it off.
