It is hard to deny that the greatest feud in NXT history was that of Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa. From their incredible tag team run as #DIY, to the emotional breakup which saw an injured Ciampa try to ensure Gargano went down with him, to their violent matches on NXT Takeover events, and beyond, they had a feud for the ages. However, they were forced to wrap up the storyline in the middle of a pandemic, in an empty arena without fans. This didn’t sit well with fans, or Gargano & Ciampa.
The Feud Is On Hold, But One Day Will Finish Properly
While speaking with Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport, Gargano would describe why he feels the feud with Ciampa isn’t over just yet.
“I don’t know, man. I think they took that ‘you’ve got to fight forever’ thing literally. Like you said, we haven’t been able to finish our story in front of a crowd, in front of a jam-packed crazy TakeOver audience, like we just haven’t been able to do it. Some would say that injuries actually helped our story, because obviously when Tommaso turned on me he went away for a little bit, which made the story go out even longer, which made the first match actually take forever to happen.
That actually benefited us, but lately that did not benefit us. Obviously, TakeOver: New York did not benefit us, and then TakeOver, which was supposed to be Tampa, did not benefit us. One day, I don’t know when, I don’t know where, I don’t know how, but I think the Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa storyline will end. I’m not saying it’s over now, but it’s on hold for however long,”
Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa Want To Finish This The Right Way
Despite all the delays and injuries, every match they had aside from One Final Beat was a hot affair. Even before One Final Beat, their insane brawl through the WWE Performance Center had fans on the edges of their seats. Gargano would go onto say that he hopes that they want to end it properly someday.
“That’s why we were super excited for TakeOver in Tampa, I think the story we were going to be able to tell up to that point would have been pretty wild, obviously that didn’t happen, but I think in both of our minds we’d like to finish the story in the right way.”
NXT doesn’t have to really worry about losing Ciampa & Gargano. Both men have resisted being called up to RAW & Smackdown, and have become pillars of the brand, both inside the ring and behind the scenes. Ciampa & Gargano have done production work in addition to their work in the ring, and are likely being groomed to work in the Performance Center as coaches.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes, this story will be able to be picked back up and finished right. How do you think this feud should end? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
