WWE NXT Results: Johnny Gargano Defeats Dexter Lumis, But Indi Hartwell Makes Sure Love Wins (08/03)

The storyline between Dexter Lumis & Indi Hartwell, and their forbidden love has been a major highlight of WWE NXT over the past few months. However, tonight is the end of it all potentially. It’s time for Lumis to fight for the love of Hartwell in NXT’s first ever “Love Her Or Lose Her” match as he takes on one of NXT’s best in Johnny Gargano.

Dexter Lumis Is Fighting For Love

Gargano was fighting for his family, as if Lumis wins, he becomes an unofficial member of The Way. They’d lock up in the middle of the ring, and Gargano applied a headlock before being shoved into the corner. Gargano hit two quick arm drags, before Lumis nailed two of his own and a big dropkick.

This one spilled to the outside, where Gargano nailed a suplex. Hartwell would come down to ringside, who would plead with Gargano that Lumis should be given the win. Back in the ring, Lumis hit a Thesz Press before uncorking some big punches. The crowd was chanting “We Want InDex”, but Gargano fired up to hit some forearm blows.

Lumis missed a lariat on Gargano before slipping out of the ring. He’d vanish under the ring, with Hartwell going to find him. LeRae came to ringside and pulled Hartwell out, who was hand in hand with Lumis. We’d go to a picture in picture break as Gargano threw Lumis into the barricade.

Johnny Gargano Gives InDex One Final Beat

Back in the ring, Lumis would fire back with some punches before taking a snapmare and dropkick to the back of the head. Gargano applied a headlock in the middle of the ring, but Lumis again fought back. He’d send Gargano off the ropes and nail a spinebuster, then a backdrop before springing right up into a leg drop for a two count.

On the outside, Gargano would argue with Beth Phoenix, allowing Lumis to counter a slingshot spear and nail a Falcon Arrow. Lumis went up top for a double stomp, but Gargano dodged and hit a superkick for a two count. They’d trade heavy blows in the middle of the ring, Gargano taking a superkick in the end.

Lumis locked eyes with Hartwell, before going for her signature springboard elbow drop. Gargano dodged and applied the Gargano Escape, but Lumis reached out to Hartwell to get the rope break. A distracted roll up got Lumis a two count before he was kicked into Hartwell, who fell off the apron. He’d go to check on her as Gargano nailed a suicide dive DDT, before One Final Beat ended this one.

This was soap opera wrestling at it’s finest, but with one of the best wrestlers in the world in the mix. Gargano & Lumis had a solid match, but the fun and compelling storytelling pushes this one into the realm of unforgettable. Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)

After the match, Hartwell would defy the rules and side with her heart. She’d sprint to the ring and hit a Thesz Press on Lumis, before they would make out as Beth Phoneix was the happiest she’s ever been, and the show faded to black. Love wins. Will this be the end of The Way? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
