One of the biggest stories coming out of WWE currently is that of the contract of Adam Cole. Since joining WWE, Cole has been a standout on NXT, becoming the longest reigning NXT Champion. He’s gotten spotlight on the main roster, with a win over Daniel Bryan, and a showcase on Survivor Series against Pete Dunne.
However, WWE failed to realize when his contract had ended. It actually finished up a few weeks ago, but Cole agreed to an extension to finish up his feud with Kyle O’Reilly in NXT. Today, a major attempt to get a longer deal was made, as Cole met with WWE CEO, Vince McMahon ahead of Smackdown Live.
Vince McMahon Is Likely Making Final Attempt To Get Adam Cole To Stay
In a report from Fightful.com, their sources within WWE noted that there was a high level meeting booked between Adam Cole & Vince McMahon for tonight ahead of Smackdown Live. Cole was not previously intended to be at Smackdown, and is not planned to appear on the show tonight. While we rarely find out what happens behind closed doors in WWE, given what we know about the situation and Cole, it’s not hard to imagine the purpose of the meeting.
It’s previously been reported that Adam Cole has turned down multiple contract offers from WWE, so this is likely the big pitch to try and keep him on board. Cole has heavy links to the AEW roster, so if he leaves WWE he’s likely to show up there shortly after. He was formerly in Bullet Club alongside Omega & The Young Bucks, and was a big part of Being The Elite. Add in that he is in a relationship with the AEW World Women’s Champion, and the path outside of WWE is very clear.
Right now, Cole is expected to finish up his feud with Kyle O’Reilly in NXT at NXT Takeover 36 later this month. His extension will then run out, making him a free agent. We can expect him to lose at Takeover either way, as even if he is to stay in WWE, Cole has run out of things to do in NXT.
