We’re back again with another recap of the NJPW Summer Struggle tour. Today saw the third day of Super Junior Tag League action, and things are starting to really heat up. Yesterday’s action saw the leading teams of El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori, Tiger Mask IV & Robbie Eagles, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado all moving up to 4 points. Tonight, they look to all keep that momentum up.
Shingo Takagi Is Making Los Ingobernables De Japon Unstoppable
But first, we always have the undercard action. Once again, they pulled Jado out to the ring for a six man tag team match alongside Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens. Yesterday they got a win over Great Bash Heel & Toru Yano, but their opponents shuffled with Hiroyoshi Tenzan switched in for Togi Makabe. This led to Yano getting the win, rolling up Jado for the win.
Makabe was instead teaming with the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions to take on the L.I.J unit of IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi, BUSHI, SANADA, and Tetsuya Naito. This eight man tag team match always ends the same, with Shingo dropping the guest of CHAOS with Last of The Dragon to get a win. Three nights in a row this has been the case, which is harming the momentum of Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI, and Goto.
BULLET CLUB’s Cutest Tag Team Remains Dominant
Starting off the tournament action for the night, the self proclaimed “BULLET CLUB’s Cutest Tag Team” aka the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag team Champions El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori would take on Dick Togo & Gedo, also of BULLET CLUB. However, Gedo & Togo are the furthest thing from cute, or being actual contenders in this tournament. They lost this match, with Ishimori pinning Gedo for the win.
Next up, two front runners in Tiger Mask IV & Robbie Eagles and Suzuki-Gun reps Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado clashing. Tensions between Eagles & Desperado were still lingering after their clash over the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. This will only escalate, after Eagles would submit Kanemaru with the Ron Miller Special to push his team ahead to 6 points.
Finally, we’d see two of the teams at the back of the back clash. Roppongi 3K have been having an awful tournament, and they’d try to finally get on the board against Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi. However, for the third night in a row, YOH would let his partner down and fall, this time to the RPP from Master Wato. Frustration is becoming clear, and if this continues, this team could be done.
