One of the longest standing tournaments in WWE history is King of The Ring. First held back on house shows starting in 1985, it became a televised event in the early 90’s. Legends like Bret Hart, Harley Race, Edge, Owen Hart and more have all carried the crown proudly, and it remains a fan favorite event. We last saw this tournament when Baron Corbin won, but it’s almost time to crown a new king… and perhaps finally time to crown a queen as well.
King Of The Ring Is Coming Back
Ever since King Corbin lost his crown to the ‘King of Strong Style’ Shinsuke Nakamura, rumors of a coming King of the Ring tournament have been rampant. Now is the perfect time to do it as well, as following a slew of WWE releases, they really need to start building their roster up again. A tournament like King of The Ring can really help you showcase talents as stars, and could help to fill some time on Monday Night RAW.
Chad Gable proved last time around that a strong run in KOTR can get fans behind you, though WWE ruined it with the Shorty G gimmick. This could be the case for members of the roster like Xavier Woods & T-Bar, two incredible wrestlers who have only rarely been showcased on TV as singles stars. However, this tournament could also be set up just for Corbin to win his crown back.
The tournament has all but been confirmed for October, with the finals planned to be held in Saudi Arabia. This news was shared by Andrew Zarian of the MatMen podcast, who has had numerous scoops this year. They also noted that the Queen of The Ring is coming.
There Are Two Talents Who Claim To Be Queen Of The Ring Already In WWE
However, this will also come alongside the first ever Queen of The Ring tournament, with the finals also set to take place in Saudi Arabia. That almost feels telegraphed for a Charlotte Flair victory, who has taken the nickname ‘The Queen’ recently. The finals could be Natalya vs. Flair, giving us The Queen of Harts vs, The Queen.
Natalya was in the first ever women’s match that was televised by WWE in Saudi Arabia, making her a natural fit for the finals of the first ever Queen of The Ring tournament. It could also help her bounce back from injury, provided the timetables line up correctly. Queen of the Ring has been a common ask from fans, fans who are likely not too pleased with the prospect of it taking place in Saudi Arabia.
