We’re getting closer and closer to the biggest card in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s push into the USA market yet. NJPW Resurgence has shaped up to be a massive card, with a lot of the biggest names in NJPW front and center. From Hiroshi Tanahashi to Jay White to Tomohiro Ishii, we are in for a great night of action. We are also seeing performers from affiliated companies, with AEW stars Lance Archer & Jon Moxley booked, as well as Moose from Impact Wrestling. Moose was a big surprise given his lack of history with the promotion, but Rocky Romero has now explained how this all came together.
Rocky Romero Simply Had To Make A Few Calls To Get Moose On NJPW Programming
With all the talk about Forbidden Doors in professional wrestling, it’s important to recognize how important to this process Rocky Romero has been. Often viewed as one of the driving forces of NJPW’s recent partnerships, he’s been working everywhere from Impact to EW to ROH. He’s been constantly making moves, and getting Moose onto Resurgence was as easy as using his connections and making a few quick phone calls.
While speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, he would explain how he got Moose onto this show, and perhaps future NJPW events as well.
“I heard that Tomohiro Ishii was coming and somebody asked me to reach out to somebody at IMPACT because they’d like to get a big name and reached out to Scott D’Amore and Scott D’Amore said, ‘Moose really wants to be a part of NJPW STRONG and wants to be a part of New Japan U.S.’ so, I said, ‘That sounds like that would be cool to me. Let me ask the office’ and the office said they would love that and there it is and it’s kind of a dream match, especially now.”
Lots Of Potential For Future Matches
Because of Romero making a few quick calls, we have what could be a hard hitting instant classic coming tomorrow. Moose & Ishii have met once before, but since then Moose has improved immensely. He’s truly becoming one of the best all around talents in the world, a great mix of size, charisma, and skill. Ishii should prove to be an excellent opponent as well, being perhaps the greatest brawler of the modern era.
If this match goes well, we can expect to see Moose potentially become one of the top stars in NJPW of America. Perhaps even the one to take the Strong Openweight Championship from Tom Lawlor. Do you hope to see more of Moose in NJPW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
