After a few tour dates more focused on the rest of the roster, the Summer Struggle Tour has brought more action for the Super Junior Tag League. Without many remaining matches, tensions are high for all teams. However, NJPW was put into a hard situation due to some COVID-19 related concerns, and this forced some changes to be made to this card.
Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi Get A Win By Forfeit
Kicking off the show was a tag team match between Great Bash Heel and Super Junior Tag League participants Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi. They were set to face Gedo & Dick Togo tonight, but they were two of the names pulled from the show at the last minute. Wato & Taguchi won by forfeit and got two points, but were already mathematically eliminated… and lost to Great Bash Heel. You win one, lose two.
Elsewhere on the card, we would see Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI team with TenKoji to defeat the Suzuki-gun unit of DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr. Kazuchika Okada & Toru Yano teamed up to take out Jado & Chase Owens, which was as exciting a match as it sounds.
Roppongi 3K Are No More, SHO Drops YOH Like A Bad Habit
However, we did have two tournament matches tonight. First up, the front-runners and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, and self proclaimed Bullet Club’s Cutest Tag Team were in action. They would face another front-runner in Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask IV, able to fight to get a major win.
The real storyline everyone has been watching in this tournament however was the rising tensions between Roppongi 3K. A nine year friendship was lost alongside the main event match, as El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru put YOH down to keep moving forward. After the match, SHO would snap and drop his partner with the Shock Arrow. Backstage, he declared “YOH is of no use to me anymore.”
With their final match of the tournament set to be against Gedo & Dick Togo, this match was likely the last we will ever see of Roppongi 3K. Do you think SHO is now on the track to huge singles success? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
