For four decades, Dave Meltzer has been largely recognized as a knowledgeable source when it comes to all things wrestling and his ratings were things wrestlers and fans pointed to as vindication of their efforts and favorites, respectively.
The last few years, Meltzer has taken a pretty big hit when it comes to reliability as his sources, for whatever reason, have proven to either be wrong or his interpretation is wrong.
It happens. None of us are perfect and a vast majority of what we hear is speculation and possibilities.
Making enemies
But then Meltzer crossed a line a couple of months back by mentioning Charlotte Flair by name and said she got a makeover because she felt self-conscious, and he earned her ire and for good reason.
Yeah, I just listened. I thought @davemeltzerWON would have learned his lesson last time commenting about women’s bodies, but apparently I’m fair game 🙄
So I get to respond. Again. To a rumor about my body. Again.
You know what? This is when I stop.

And after Andrade’s match against Kenny Omega at AAA’s Triplemania for Omega’s AAA Mega Championship, Meltzer stepped in it again (Quote curtesy of wrestletalk.com:
“It was not as good as the Christian Cage match (Cage vs Omega on Friday’s Rampage). I mean, it was a good match, but it was not a great match. It felt like Kenny Omega was working to have a really good match, and it felt like Andrade was working to have a good match.”
Andrade didn’t take the criticism well, and responded with, “That man hates me and will never speak well of me or my fiancée but all the fans love him for the garbage that comes out of his mouth. i’m a pro and I showed it yesterday and LA SOMBRA is back to show everyone i’m better than waiting for a stupid star rating(DM)”

Meltzer fired back with, “Never thought the day would come when somebody would say I never speak well of your fiance. For years all I heard was how much I praised her. Pays to actually read first hand.”
Guess Meltzer forgot what he said about Flair previously?

We all criticize
There’s an old saying that everyone’s a critic, and it happens especially when it’s about something subjective to many.
There’s also favorites at play, as Meltzer has shown an unabashed love of AEW while not so much for other companies. And that’s fine. He’s entitled to his opinion.
Andrade is also entitled to feel how he feels and voice his frustrations, and there can be an argument made for whether or not he should’ve said anything.
We’re curious if this will lead to more speaking out against opinions they feel aren’t fair, or is it a blip on the radar? Let us know your thoughts on their exchange in the comments below.
