Ever since the King of Pro Wrestling Championship was introduced, Toru Yano has been keen on keeping the gimmicky title for himself. Chase Owens was able to use his Bullet Club connections to claim the belt earlier this year, and tonight will face Yano for the Championship in an I Quit match. Owens wants the old Toru Yano, the Great Bash Heel Yano – if he can still be that brutal. Who can inflict more damage and force their opponent to verbally surrender?
Toru Yano Goes Back To His Roots – Crowd Still Doesn’t Really Care
Yano would come out looking like the Most Violent Player Yano. His hair was dyed a familiar shade of blondish red, with a bag of handcuffs, a steel chair, and an umbrella. Owens was dressed for battle, and Yano went right after him as the match started. Yano would take a handful of powder to the face, before Owens stomped away at him.
Owens would choke Yano on the floor, and the crowd was absolutely dead to start this one off. Yano would be sent into the ring, and would have his eyes raked and choked. You could hear the Japanese Commentary team, the arena was that quiet. Yano would throw Owens into the barricade and grab a trash can.
Owens would take a baking tray to the head, and be asked if he wants to quit. A trashcan was put over his head, and it was hit with the umbrella, the sound enough to make some men quit, but not Owens. The chair was mounted into the corner, and Owens was locked in a neck crank on the ropes. Owens refused to quit, and hit a suplex on the trash can.
Owens applied the Figure Four Leg Lock around the ring post, but Yano didn’t quit. He’d use a leather strap from their match at Castle Attack, because this feud has been going since February, and use it to trap Yano. Some kendo stick shots to the stomach was all we got, before Owens grabbed some small ladders.
Chase Owens Does The Right Thing And Ends This Match
Yano launched Owens’ crotch first onto the ladder and threw it away. On the outside, Owens threw Yano into the barricade and set up a ladder across from the ring and looked for a suplex through it, but Yano fought free before going after the nose of Owens. Owens would hit a V-Trigger to the back of Yano’s head, before falling through the ladder at ringside after being hit with another ladder.
Two tables were set up by Yano, but he’d be set up on it as Owens looked to dive through. Instead, Yano went for and failed to get a superplex. Owens grabbed some handcuffs, and they tried to explain on commentary that the crowd is just stunned by the violence, and not half asleep waiting for the next match. He’d expose the floor but get back dropped onto it.
Back in the ring Owens hit Jewel Heist and put Yano on the tables at ringside. He’d look for the Package Piledriver but the tables didn’t break. Yano was handcuffed to the barricade, and Owens grabbed the leather strap. Owens would grab the microphone and try to urge Yano to give up, beating him with the strap. Yano had a key to the handcuffs, and Owens didn’t know he was free.
A low blow was followed by Owens being handcuffed. Yano would beat him with the strap, and would be strangled and still not say I quit. A table was brought into the ring, and Owens was powerbombed through the table. Owens was handcuffed to the top rope and Yano grabbed scissors. With the fear of a haircut, Owens would spit in the face of Yano and quit before he got stabbed.
An okay brawl, but the dead crowd said it all. Toru Yano shouldn’t be getting major singles matches like this. He was once a great brawler, but fans want comedy from Yano and they didn’t get that in this match. They didn’t get the ultra violent brawl the match type suggested, or anything of value really – especially given its length. This match went over 25 minutes. One of the worst matches of the year. Match Rating: 0/5
