When looking at the list of names released from WWE NXT recently, one really stood out as odd. This was Jake Atlas. WWE are planning to focus on younger talent, and Atlas was only 26 years old and being praised as one of the best up and coming talents in the world. However, we now know that he didn’t get cut purely because of ‘budget reasons’ as Jake Atlas had requested his release from the company.
Jake Atlas On Requesting His Release
During a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Atlas would detail the circumstances of his release. He was originally signed to a three year deal in WWE, but he felt like the company wasn’t really listening to any requests he had. This is why he wanted to leave, in addition to his mental health not being in the best place. He would also turn down a contract extension around this time.
“When I turned down the contract extension, I counter offered with some terms of my own and I more than anything wanted a meeting with Triple H and our conversations were kind of at a standstill and as you know Canyon ended up getting let go himself. So then that put me in a really weird situation, I had asked Canyon for my release at some point in our conversations, it wasn’t a ‘I wanna leave,’ it was more so a conversation of ‘ I want to be here, and feel like I have so much value and I feel like I am not being heard.”
In the end, the choice for release was made for him in August, but he’s now back on his feet and ready to break out in a new company.
Set To Make His Debut For Ring Of Honor
This Sunday at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor PPV, Atlas will be one of the men making their debut for the company. He is set to face Taylor Rust, who previously wrestled for ROH during the Pure Championship tournament. Atlas is a great fit for their current style, which is quite heavy on Lucha Libre influence.
We can truly expect to see Atlas just about everywhere. He’s got as much potential as anyone, and is already so good at just 26 years old. This is likely a release WWE will come to regret, especially once Atlas finds his way to AEW in due time. Are you excited to see Jake Atlas in Ring of Honor?
