On this day in wrestling history we remember the greatest professional wrestling manager in history, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.
If there’s a Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling managers, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan would have a mountain all his own.
Though he started out as a professional wrestling in 1961, it didn’t take long for him to find what really set him apart, and that was managing others.
His quick with and razor sharp tongue could slice and dice anyone in seconds, and he had an unprecedented sense of humor.
Charisma poured out of Heenan to the point he was one of the few that could insult you, and you’d laugh and cheer him on for doing so.
It was a work of art when he cut an interview for a Heenan Family member or as an announcer across from the late, great Gorilla Monsoon or Vince McMahon.
Would you stop!?
He was rarely at a loss for words, and many of them came at the expense of Monsoon who would often utter the phrase, “Would you stop?” multiple times a broadcast.
Whether he was talking to us ham ‘n eggers or humanoids, he entertained us all for years and it was a pleasure listening to him driving someone crazy.
As great as he was on the mic, he was even better as a manager as his stable, dubbed the Heenan Family, was the dominant heel faction in the WWE for years.
Some of the members included Andre the Giant, Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, Haku and more.
Each of them are either in the Hall of Fame or will be at some point, and they all had serious title challenges throughout their careers and held titles, though a few deserved to hold the top belt.

Passing of a legend
Heenan was a survivor of throat cancer and it’d been in remission since 2004, but by 2017 he started suffering from complications for his cancer ordeal and he passed away from organ failure surrounded by friends and family.
He left behind a legacy that we don’t think will ever be duplicated as many praised him as being able to do it all in the ring but chose to be a manager and helped transform the sport.
We’re going to go back and watch some of his old clips and relive the magic to try to honor this day in wrestling history moment.
