Over the past month or so, rumors have been swirling about a potential return of the King of The Ring tournament. The classic tournament dates back to house shows of the 1980’s, and has been used to boost many talents over the years. From Edge, to Brock Lesnar, to Bret Hart – WWE has seen many kings, but it’s time to crown a Queen of the Ring. However, that name just feels lazy – and WWE seems to agree.
WWE To Hold A Queens Crown Tournament Very Soon
While Queen of the Ring would be a fine name, WWE wanted to make this tournament feel a bit more unique for those involved. Therefore they have reportedly gone for a title of the “Queens Crown Tournament”. This allows it to build its own legacy, while just being a gender swapped version of a tournament WWE knows how to book.
Early reports put this tournament in October, with it ending at Crown Jewel alongside a 2021 edition of King of The Ring. However, with the WWE Draft coming and no mention of the tournaments on TV, it’s possible it was pushed back to November or December.
Having the tournaments in December could even be used to start the road to the Royal Rumble, giving the winners both their crowns, and a chance to pick their number in the massive Battle Royales in January. However, it’s just as likely that WWE will rush this tournament over the weeks following the WWE Draft.
A Tournament By Any Other Name Is Just As Sweet
Most fans really don’t care about what WWE wants to name this tournament however. They simply want to see the talented ladies of the roster get a chance to shine. Smackdown Live has a big issue with getting proper time for their female talents, with episodes often only having minutes of action from that division.
If this tournament can get some steam behind the division again, it will be a success. Many fans have already pegged Charlotte Flair or Natalya Neidhart as potential winners, simply due to using queen based nicknames. However, it really can be hard to judge who will claim the crown, especially with past winners of King of the Ring like Baron Corbin.
