This year has been a hard one for fans of WWE NXT. Between having the roster gutted and an image change to NXT 2.0 – things don’t feel even close to the same as they did a year ago. Some belts have seriously dropped in value, and the talents who held them this year were removed from the roster. Bronson Reed is one such name, and just weeks before his release, he was the NXT North American Champion. We now know what his reign originally would have looked like.
Bronson Reed Was Going To Be A Dominant Champion… But Plans Changed
While speaking with Sportskeeda, Reed would share how the reign was planned to go. He was given high hopes and praise by both Triple H & Shawn Michaels – but sadly they didn’t get the final say.
“I sort of tracked out that I was going to be North American Champion, be that strong North American Champion that defends his belt all the way to the end of the year, and then eventually face off with the NXT Champion. That was the story that was going to happen, but then obviously with WWE, things change on a week to week basis. I believe those things when they happen. Even when they told me I was becoming the North American Champion, I was like, ‘Ok, I’ll wait until it actually happens before I get happy.”
Plans quickly changed, and Reed only got a single defense in during his reign – and it was in a six man tag team match instead of one on one. Atleast it was on an NXT Takeover event, but this was a drastic change from Reed as a dominant fighting champion.
The NXT North American Championship Could Become Vacant Soon
As of writing, the NXT North American Championship is in a state of limbo. The champion Isaiah ‘Sweve’ Scott was called up to Smackdown Live alongside the rest of Hit Row. We can expect answers on NXT 2.0, and perhaps we will simply get a tournament to name a new champion. Santos Escobar could also get a quick match with Swerve to send him off from NXT.
Bronson Reed is also in limbo, not yet showing up for any major companies. We can expect Reed to show up somewhere eventually, but sadly with so much talent on the menu right now – he’s gotten lost in the shuffle.
Do you think Reed will be able to get back on his feet before the end of 2020? Would you have enjoyed this reign as laid out here by Reed? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
