Tay Conti has made great strides since coming to All Elite Wrestling – and we will hopefully see that tonight. She is taking on Santana Garrett, someone Conti had an infamously bad match with back in WWE NXT. Garrett has always been regarded as a strong worker, so Conti took the blame – and will earn the praise tonight.
Tay Conti Has Come A Long Way
Conti was ready to go with her best friend, Anna Jay in her corner cheering her on. Garrett has a chance to catapult up the AEW Women’s Championship rankings, as Conti is ranked #2. Conti would start fast with some big takedowns, before Garrett was able to block. Garrett went for a single leg takedown, before being stopped and ending up in a Calf Slicer.
Conti would be fought off, but was quick to take Garrett right back down to the mat. Garrett tried a big forearm smash, before the handspring back elbow and a snap suplex. She flowed right into a pinfall, before shifting into a Muta Lock variation. Conti would smartly kick the bridge of Garrett away to get back up. They’d go for facebusters at the same time, causing a double down in the middle of the ring.
Conti would miss a pump kick in the corner, before catching Garrett with a second attempt in the middle of the ring. Three more big kicks in the corner had Garrett seeing stars, and the DDTay got the win.
Some solid female wrestling action from two very good workers. Conti was able to show her insane growth, while Garrett showed her worth even in defeat. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
