Since coming to AEW, Bobby Fish has been able to make quite a splash, and tonight has a good chance at getting his first win on Dynamite. Last week he went head to head with Bryan Danielson, and tonight Anthony Greene is much less of a threat for this well travelled veteran. It’s another exhibition match, no real story or stakes – but that’s all you need sometimes. Just a chance to prove yourself on TV and with a big crowd watching.
Bobby Fish Goes Too Far With Anthony Greene, CM Punk Makes The Save
Fish would find Greene already in the ring, and these two knew each other from their time together in WWE. Some elbow strikes opened the match from Fish, sending Greene to the apron where he’d jump back in with a crossbody. A single kick the leg buckled the knee of Greene, before Fish hit a diving senton over the ropes.
Fish would drive Greene into the corner, kick the behinds of both knees before a dragon screw and sliding lariat. Greene was suplexed into the ropes, and given his last rights before a knockout kick to the head. This was a statement win for Fish, and after the match he would kick Greene once again as he tried to get up.
Some mounted punches would punish Greene, and Fish would apply a rear chinlock. Who would come to save Greene but CM Punk? Fish would run to the outside, and maybe that’s the next match for CM Punk in AEW. They would match up nicely in styles, but Fish has no interest in fighting that one tonight. However, this is exactly what the beatdown was for. He lured out a top star, who now wants a match with him. Beating Greene gets a small payday, but beating CM Punk? That’s huge.
This was a total squash match, but setting up a match with CM Punk is huge for Bobby Fish. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
Speaking of money, Lio Rush wants to make Dante Martin big money. They are a tag team now, with Rush trying to make him a star – while Matt Sydal couldn’t do that. To show Martin this, next week on Rampage we get the tag team debut of Rush & Martin as they take on The Sydal Brothers. Can Dante Martin get a huge statement win there?
