The AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament of 2021 is starting to take form. We are down to four men, with two semi-final matches to go. Next week on Dynamite we have Jon Moxley taking on Orange Cassidy, and they take on the winner of tonight’s match. Bryan Danielson will take on Eddie Kingston in what could be the best match of the entire tournament. Only one man can make the finals, and neither will go down without a fight.

Eddie Kingston Wastes No Time Getting To The Ring

Kingston would march to the ring for a battle, and square up with Danielson. Neither man wanted to make the first mistake, and took this one slow as a consequence. They’d get tied up on the ropes, and Kingston did not give a clean break – laying in a chop, likely the first of many in this fight. Kingston would be wary of standing and fighting with Danielson, hanging out in the corner to prevent any takedowns, but welcoming mid kicks and chops.

Once Danielson was in the corner, Kingston nailed some Kobashi style chops and sent Danielson across the ring. Danielson flipped over and hit the running forearm, and Kingston was sent outside and was losing his head. Back in the middle of the ring, Kingston was able to block a Single Leg Takedown from Danielson, before going back to striking. Kingston was a better brawl here, and those chops would be laid in.

Danielson took the chops and got control of the arm, going for some armbreakers before stomping away at the arm on the mat. You take his arm away, there’s no suplexes, chops or the Stretch Plum. However, you need to rip the arm of Kingston off before he stops, and he’d fight free and hit a knee and some more chops, even using his head as a weapon. They’d trade headbutts, uppercuts, and kicks, with Kingston flooring Danielson with a dropkick.

Kingston turned a neckbreaker into a two count, before trying to get the Stretch Plum. Danielson blocked, but the chest would be further reddened by chops, and Kingston even bit at the ear of his victim. The crowd was behind Kingston as he sent Danielson to the outside, and threw him right into the steel steps.

The Crowd Is On Their Feet For Bryan Danielson & Kingston’s War

Back in the ring, Danielson gave a one finger salute, and Kingston came in with more chops and one to the jaw got a two count. Danielson was in control, and Kingston would maintain that with an eye poke when Danielson threw some forearms. He’d get a chance with a forearm, sending Kingston outside and nailing a baseball slide – but the jumping knee was blocked with a forearm smash and a Saito Suplex on the floor.

Kingston is fine with a count out win, and Danielson fell to the ground at 8, and burst into the ring at 9. He’d be suplexed into the corner and then to the middle of the ring – before Stretch Plum was applied. Danielson fought out, and took another chop before being set up for a superplex. He’d fight free, but Kingston tried again and Danielson hit a headbutt.

An open palm strike slap rocked Danielson, but he slipped past Kingston for a top rope Belly To Back suplex, a classic American Dragon move. Kingston nailed an enziguri and wanted the Half & Half Suplex, but Danielson countered and nailed a Buzzsaw Kick before some mid-kicks and a potential KO blow. Rick Knox checked and Kingston was still alive, but Kingston collapsed when the running knee was coming. Kingston would be punched out, and an armbar was applied. He’d refuse to tap and nail a snug DDT as a counter as we hit the 15 minute mark. More strikes, and neither man would give ground. A rolling elbow was followed by an uraken. They got a standing ovation mid-match, which you really never see. Kingston would walk into a triangle sleeper and take elbows to the head, giving a middle finger as he passed out.

This match on paper looked great, and was even better in the ring. It was a perfect match of styles, and these are two of the smartest wrestlers working today. They went strike for strike from bell to bell, and you couldn’t ask for a better match from these two. Match Rating: 4.75/5 (**** 3/4)
