The last time that Serena Deeb & Hikaru Shida faced, it was as Shida looked to claim the 50th win of her AEW Career – which would make her the first woman to accomplish that in the company. However, Deeb was able to get the win in what would be called an upset win by many. Now, Shida has another chance to win that match – and with it being an opening round match on the AEW TBS Championship tournament? It’s time to get serious and prove that last loss was an upset, and that she can become a champion again in AEW.
Eddie Kingston Is As Hardworking As They Get – And That’s What Danielson Wants
Before this one could get underway, we would hear from This Friday, we get Eddie Kingston & Bryan Danielson. Kingston took Danielson saying he doesn’t work hard on Dark very personally. Every morning he takes Zoloft to fight his depression, and that depression is channeled into anger which comes out in the ring.
Kingston is as honest and hard working as they come, and Danielson really couldn’t deny that. He is one of the hardest working man in AEW, but Danielson has been through the same fight – but he doesn’t whine about it. Danielson wants Kingston fired up on Friday, he wants him to bring the fight. They will meet on Rampage with a spot in the finals of the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament on the line. Who do you got in that one?
Hikaru Shida Has Something To Prove
Shida was fired up coming into this one, and was determined to not get caught again. Deeb shot in for a takedown, and Shida caught her with some strikes on the mat before keeping forward in the corner. Shida would get her leg caught by Deeb, who slipped outside and wrapped it around the ring post. Deeb was rammed face first off the ring post, before Shida took her up and over with a suplex.
Shida would rush into the corner for a knee strike, but Deeb dodged and nailed a chop block. Working over the knee, Deeb was doing everything possible from heel cranks to dragon screws. Shida is a deadly striker, but take that away and you don’t have a lot to worry about. Deeb would be stopped in her tracks by an Enzuguri, but her base was weakened. Shida would focus on the forearm strikes, getting a running knee in the corner before a running forearm.
She would come off the top rope with a dropkick, and nail a delayed vertical suplex. The knee was fine now that she was moving, and would look for the powerbomb. Deeb blocked out, and fought off a Straight Jacket German Suplex. Shida would nail it on the second attempt, before nailing a knee to the back of the head. The spinning knee strike was blocked, and a Dragon Screw was nailed.
Serena Deeb Snaps
Deeb looked for the Figure Four Leg Lock, but was kicked to the outside. Shida set up a chair to springboard off for a knee, and Deeb foiled that but forgot the stairs could be used the same way. Deeb would slip in and out of the ring, and was able to apply the Figure Four Leg Lock around the ringpost. Shida would block a Figure Four Attempt and Neckbreaker in the ring, and went for a knee strike which Deeb rolled into a half crab. She moved into the inverted Figure Four, but Shida got the bottom rope!
Deeb tried to use a trophy to bludgeon Shida, only for Shida to counter and hand it over. A rake to the eyes from Deeb would serve as a set up for the Deebtox, but Shida blocked into a roll up for the win! It was 50 wins and a ticket to the next round, but Deeb lost her mind and beat her down with a chair and the Serenity Lock!
These two are proving to be great rivals. They have some of the best technical skills in the AEW Women’s division, and that was on full display in this one. With a great story to tell and all the potential on display, they brought it in this tournament match. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
