The hype that is being built for NJPW Battle in the Valley just gets bigger and bigger, but that’s not all NJPW will have on offer for November in the United States. They will be running TV tapings on November 15th, with a great list of matches set to take place – including the return of “The Warmaster” Josh Barnett, who returns to NJPW after 17 years away.
Josh Barnett Last Wrestled For NJPW In 2004
The return of Barnett comes as the next test on the road for Alex Coughlin as he looks to finally graduate from Young Lion status. He’s been passed by with both Karl Fredericks & Clark Connors, making him the last of his class to still be a Young Lion. Coughlin is responsible for bringing Barnett into this match, as he impressed him during a recent Bloodsport show.
Last time Barnett was in NJPW was in 2004 when he wrestled Ken Shamrock on NJPW Nexess. That same show also featured a young masked American Dragon in the opener, and Bob Sapp defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Inoki-ism was running wild, and Barnett fit that era just as well as he fits the modern NJPW.
All Other Announced Matches Reveal No Tomohiro Ishii Or Jeff Cobb In World Tag League 2021
However, this is just one of the many matches announced. Fred Rosser will challenge Tom Lawlor for the Strong Openweight Championship. Tomohiro Ishii will take on Brody King in what could steal the entire tapings. Lio Rush & Adrian Quest take on Stray Dog Army in tag team action.
Also in tag team action we have Jay White and Hikule’o taking on Chris Dickinson and Alex Zayne. Gabriel Kidd will grapple with Jonathan Gresham, while Ren Narita teams with Clark Connors and Karl Fredericks to take on Will Ospreay, TJP and Jeff Cobb. Finally Kevin Knight and the DKC will be taking on Jordan Clearwater and Brogan Finlay.
These matches show that Tomohiro Ishii & Jeff Cobb will not be in World Tag League 2021, which will start up the night before. Ishii has not missed the annual tag team tournament since it was the G1 Tag League, starting a 13 year streak for 2008 to 2020. This also explains why Great O-Khan & Aaron Henare have established a tag team unit after O-Khan & Cobb tore the field up in 2020.
