Right now, a hot topic in regards to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is the potential of a streaming service. WWE really changed the game for professional wrestling when they launched the WWE Network back in 2014, having since turned this into a major deal with NBC and their Peacock service.
Since then, everyone has seemed to follow suit, with Honor Club, NJPW World, Independent Wrestling TV and more all popping up over the following years. AEW is rumored to join the scene eventually, and now AEW owner Tony Khan has given his thoughts on this prospect.
Tony Khan Knows There Is Great Demand, It’s Something AEW Is Working On
We’d recently heard Tony Schiavone give his thoughts on an AEW streaming service, with him feeling it’ll come by the end of 2022. However, Khan is the Tony who makes the choices, and he has heard about fans wanting just this. He’d speak on this while at the Monaco Streaming Film Festival, where he’d note he was open to the idea.
“Barstool Sports asked me about it, and there’s great demand for it. I’m excited to talk more about it because we’re building, each week, a great library of content. It gets better and better, and we can provide more new content, so I’m excited to tell people about that. But it’s still something that we’re working on.”
An AEW Streaming Service Could Help To Boost Them Even Higher
As far as wrestling fans are concerned, AEW have been doing just about everything right. They are bringing great content to both TV with Dynamite & Rampage, and YouTube with Dark and Dark: Elevation. Their PPV events truly warrant the 50$ price tag with sheer quality alone – a strong feat in the modern era for getting everything for 10$ a month with most companies.
Hell, they’ve brought in names from the days of WWF No Mercy to help on their major console video game – which alone has fans feeling very positive about it. We can trust them to do a streaming service right. They do currently have AEW Plus for international viewers, which makes all the backlog of Dynamite & Rampage available to be watched on demand, and that is all that needs to be expanded upon with a greater streaming service.
