This past week on AEW Dynamite was supposed to start with a match between CM Punk & QT Marshall. However, MJF would come to the ring instead, with microphone in hand. What would follow is a twenty minute back and forth promo for the ages, which some have called the best promo of the year. It got a great response from fans, and from the talent in the back. Even with the promo going over the time set, it was not the type of promo that you try to cut short. AEW have uploaded it in full, and can be watched here.
Mark Henry Details The Response Backstage To CM Punk & MJF Finally Trading Words
Thanks to Mark Henry, we now know the exact response that was had backstage. He would discuss the effect that was had backstage on the latest episode of Busted Open, a radio show he co-hosts. Henry himself would describe it as one of the most special moments in professional wrestling history – and as he watched backstage, many others did as well.
“I was so unbelievably amazed. I started off at the monitor. I’m sitting at the monitor. There’s 30 wrestlers sitting around that area, and everybody is popping. If you’re popping wrestlers, you’ve done something in your life. You won. I had to get up, walk out to the crowd to feel it because that’s why people go to wrestling. People go to wrestling because of how you feel, not because you just want to be entertained. There is true life, emotional investment. You want to feel it. That’s one of the reasons why AEW is so popular right now is because the crowd feels like they have a role in what they’re seeing, and they do.”
Punk vs. MJF Could Be A Five Star Classic Of A Match
Right now, there is no timeline set for when MJF & CM Punk will get into the ring. It’s a possible main event for Winter is Coming in December – which could also be main evented by Bryan Danielson & Hangman Page. Both matches could happen that week, with one getting the focus on AEW Rampage instead.
Punk & MJF could potentially be on their way to a five star classic of a match. Both men have perfect fundamentals, and excel at telling stories in the ring. Give them enough time to make things perfect, and you will have a match to remember.
