Atlanta is about to have a new wrestling promotion adding to the sights to see in the city, and it’s thanks to Jonathan Gresham and Baron Black as they’re bringing their own ideas to Indie wrestling in 2022 with TERMINUS: Modern Age Grappling.

They’re ready to hit the ground running with their first show scheduled for January 16, and so far Daniel Garcia, Bandido, and Jania Kai have been announced for the premiere show.

In an age where the Indie shows are growing and gaining more notice in the public eye, we’re going to get a new take and idea for the women’s division specifically.

    New approach

Johnathan and Baron were interviewed by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp and they talked about their focus on helping women’s wrestling break through barriers in what’s mainly been a male dominated sport.

One of their biggest decisions was how to work out which women will be on the show, and how they want to given an opportunity to all of the great talent they’re seeing.

Special thanks to 411mania.com for the following transcripts.

Jonathan shared his thoughts on the wrestlers he’s focused on and how to help them grow:

“The only way to have women’s wrestling further develop is to use women on shows so they can learn more and show you what they are made of so they can be main events and world titleholders. To me, you have to open the floor and let them do what they want. To me, it’s easy and simple. I watch a lot of independent wrestling, I can’t watch the mainstream stuff, but I watch a lot of independent wrestling and see so many great talents that I would like to work with, but I get a lot of help from my lady [Jordynne Grace].”

Baron added hit thoughts on who to add:

That was one of the first things we talked about when putting TERMINUS together, what female grapplers/wrestlers we’re going to use on this debut show. I believe there are quite of few out there that are really good. I came into passing with a lot of them through AEW and I’ve seen a lot on independents. That was one of the first conversations, ‘which women wrestlers are we going to have on this debut show.’ The one’s we have chosen are going to be pretty great.”

    Change of terminology

By now, we’ve grown accustomed to every promotion wanting to use various terms to make their talent there by tying them to their company, and TERMINUS isn’t any different.

Instead of the overused term Superstar and the regular name wrestler, TERMINUS will refer to their talent as Grapplers.

Jonathan Gresham expanded on this idea:

“One thing I would like to reveal is, for the longest time, everybody has gotten hooked on this term ‘superstar.’ WWE came out with it, IMPACT started to say it, independent shows started to say ‘superstar.’ I hear people call themselves ‘superstars,’ to me, I don’t like it and I want it to change. Be different. In TERMINUS, wrestlers won’t be known as wrestlers or superstars, they will simply be known as grapplers.”

With women’s wrestling making big strides, it’s going to be fun to see what they have in store for women’s wresting going forward. This is one we don’t want to miss.
