Hype is growing for Wrestle Kingdom once again. NJPW has been starting their years with some of the best shows for years, with the steady date of January 4th ensuring they are one of the first big shows that fans get. Even with WWE Day 1 taking the spot as the first major show, NJPW has been slowly building up a great set of shows. This time around, Wrestle Kingdom will be held over three dates.
January 4th already has a Match of the Year Contender in Kazuchika Okada vs. Shingo Takagi, and January 5th sees the winner of that match take on Will Ospreay. Meanwhile, January 8th will see Pro Wrestling NOAH get their biggest spotlight in years as they go head to head with New Japan Pro Wrestling. They aren’t the only promotion to get spotlight however, as Stardom will once again have a big showcase match.
A Chance For Stardom To Make A Statement Infront Of The World At Wrestle Kingdom
As of Wrestle Grand Slam, we would actually get to see the Stardom showcase match internationally. Fans were impressed by Momo Watanabe & Saya Kamitani as they would defeat Lady C & Maika in tag team action on Night One. Then when shown Giulia & Syuri the next night? We got a taste of just how amazing Stardom can be.
Stardom has been working alongside NJPW for a few years now, mainly due to both companies being run by BushiRoad. They have mainly kept to tag team action for these showcase matches – but have the potential to go bigger for 2022. Right now, they have a chance at bringing Kairi Hojo back into the mix, with her now a free agent with her WWE contract lapsing.
Bringing Kairi back at Tokyo Dome would be a statement sent to the world of wrestling, and perhaps even to NJPW. It would show that 2022 is the year they truly break loose, which fans have been wanting to see for years now. They have a talented roster, great production values, and just need to start getting bigger venues and exposure.
