American football star Baker Mayfield, who happens to play for the Cleveland Browns, has slammed the NFL over its Covid-19 protocols.

The primary reason why Baker is outraged is due to the way in which safety regulations are being implemented. His team, the Cleveland Browns, are set to take on the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend.
But with an increasing number of players testing positive, there is an uncertainty over whether the game will go ahead. After all, Baker is one of the players who has apparently tested positive.
And given that there is so much on the line for both sides, with a play-off position up for grabs, Baker made sure that he expressed just how unhappy he was with the testing regime.
In a post to his fans on Twitter, he said: “Make up your damn mind on protocols. Showing up and making only 3 teams test?!? All so you can keep the game as scheduled to make money.”
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, other sports are also dealing with the onset of the Omicron variant, which has resulted in several football games within the Premier League being postponed.
Secondly, given that there is no set rule on when a game should be called off, it has naturally created a situation where organisations are following different standards. That is something that Baker feels strongly about.
He added: “Actually caring about player safety would mean delaying the game…No tests this morning… then let our team gather for practice… then show up after practice to test them. Something seems off here.”
The response on social media was divisive. A large number of supporters of the vaccine, as well as proponents against it, came out to express their anger at the contradictory nature of the NFL policy.
One person on Twitter wrote: “If the vaccine severely reduces symptoms, why are we still doing all this?” With no way of knowing when the pandemic is going to end, this is something that Baker as well as other sports players in general will have to put up with.
