WWE has signed some incredibly legitimate grapplers over the past few years. We’re soon going to see Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson make his debut on Monday Night RAW. The Creed Brothers have been showing their skills on NXT 2.0, and Tony D’Angelo showed some deadly grappling skills when he faced Pete Dunne in a recent main event. Another major name is the brother of Gable Steveson. Bobby Steveson was signed before his brother, and makes his debut on tonight’s episode of 205 Live — but it seems like WWE is taking steps to have him stand on his own.
Bobby Steveson Becomes Damon Kemp
It’s not uncommon for WWE to rename talents when they hit TV. In NXT 2.0 we’ve seen Bronson Steiner become Bron Breakker, Parker Bordeaux become Harland, and now Bobby Steveson is Damon Kemp. It’s not a bad name, but it has fans scratching their heads as to why it’s been changed.
There is a chance that WWE wants to ensure that he doesn’t have to exist in a shadow cast by his brother, who was able to skip the NXT system and get drafted right to Monday Night RAW. Being the brother of someone who won an Olympic Gold Medal instantly sets you up as the lesser of the two, even in a land like WWE.
Kemp Makes His Debut Tonight On 205 Live
As for his debut match, it comes against Andre Chase on the latest episode of 205 Live. It needs to be noted that 205 Live is now more akin to WWE Main Event, simply existing to give extra matches for talent from the NXT brand. A rebranding of the show has been discussed, now that the Cruiserweight division is all but dead. It still airs after Smackdown Live, and is taped after NXT 2.0.
Andre Chase vs. Damon Kemp is just one of three announced matches for this event. Ivy Nile will take on Fallon Henley, and Solo Sikoa takes on Ru Feng. Not a bad card, but nothing ‘must see’ like usual.
Will Damon Kemp impress in his WWE Debut? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
