We’re just a few months away from Wrestlemania. It’s easily the biggest show WWE runs every year, with indie companies now starting to run shows around Wrestlemania – due to the amount of fans it draws to one location. However, often the show that steals the weekend is run by WWE, but through their NXT brand. Even with the rebrand to NXT 2.0 – WWE has a big event planned for Wrestlemania weekend, but it’ll be held the same day as night one of Wrestlemania?
A Lunchtime NXT Event Before Wrestlemania?
Right now, WWE are still in the planning phases for their biggest weekend of the year. It’s been confirmed that Wrestlemania will once again be a two night event, after the positive reception of this format over the past two years. However, this makes booking a big NXT event tricky. Last year, the two night NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver was held in the middle of the week, but this year – WWE is considering trying something just a little bit different.
The plan as of writing is for NXT 2.0: Stand & Deliver to be held around lunch time on April 2nd – with Wrestlemania coming around later in the evening. This isn’t a horrible plan, and really makes time for fans to enjoy both shows. WWE had a chance to run NXT 2.0: Stand & Deliver the night before, but likely doesn’t want to have shows overlap, with Smackdown Live in it’s traditional Friday night timeslot.
WWE Are Overloading The Weekend
Wrestlemania weekend is going to be a potentially huge time for WWE. They will be running Smackdown, NXT, two nights of Wrestlemania, and a 3 hour Raw that weekend. However, this could become the norm if they’re able to sell tickets for all these shows.
Wrestling fans will also be looking to go to indie shows that will pop up around Wrestlemania weekend. We currently know that Ring of Honor will be running their return show on April 1st, overlapping with Smackdown Live. Other shows like Joey Janela’s Spring Break have also been teased for that weekend.
