Tonight! We will see the fourth episode of AEW Dark and it’s becoming clear that this show is a haven for very unique encounters. I can just about assure you that all the matches we’ll see here tonight have never happened before, and may not happen anywhere else… in addition, we have what is likely to be the most entertaining Undesirable To Undeniable segment yet! So let’s take a look at what’s on tap…
Dustin Rhodes & Sonny Kiss vs. QT Marshall & Peter Avalon (w/ Leva Bates)
So this is interesting on a couple of levels. Sonny Kiss is a highly flamboyant figure, and given Dustin Rhodes’ own history, the idea of the two forming some sort of relationship was floated very early. It would appear that behind the scenes, something of a mentorship has begun. Now it’s being taken into the squared circle here on AEW Dark, where they will be teaming for the first time.
On the other side, one half of the Librarians teams up with QT Marshall. This is timely as last week Marshall was part of the Undesirable To Undeniable segment, where he told quite a story. He had all but put his wrestling days behind him and chalked himself up as a failure, but he’s making his return to the ring tonight for one last go, right here in AEW.
Allie vs. Emi Sakura vs. Sadie Gibbs vs. Penelope Ford
Yannow, in the past Tony Khan has referred to the women’s division AEW has been building as somewhat akin to WCW’s cruiserweight division. It’s a funny thing, in the glory days of the Knockouts division, similar comparisons were made. But I definitely don’t think they were built that kind of idea in mind.
Already you kind of see that bleeding. Of course most of the division is quite small, certainly for wrestlers anyway, though stylistically they’ll probably only be as fast as the men rather than moreso. The tag division seems to fill that niche a lot more.
However, seeing them being booked in frequent multi-ways like this, showcasing several at once and encouraging inventive spots, it’s very cruiserweight, very X-Division. And when I look at the multitude of Joshis spotted in AEW, I can’t help but liken them to being the equivalent of the Mexican luchadores who helped define the cruiserweights back in the day.
That’s a fairly long-winded way of saying I expect this to be fun!
From Undesirable To Undeniable With MJF
Man… can you imagine? It should certainly be an affable one, MJF and the Rollercodster. But I must admit, I struggle to imagine him admitting to feeling undesirable at any point in his life. Still, it’ll sure be fun to see his reaction to the question.
Falls Count Anywhere: Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Jack Evans
Okay so I’m not totally convinced this isn’t being done to one up WWE’s own falls count anywhere matches this week, both of which happen to feature Universal Champion Seth Rollins… but I digress.
All I know for sure is this is an awesome combination of talent to be putting in a match like this. Darby is a daredevil and mad bumper, Havoc will do absolutely anything to himself, and Evans is one of the most supreme high fliers in the business. It’s easy to think up the kind of mad spots these three could cook up in a match that can go anywhere.
Darby really feels like the kind of guy that might jump off a tron or a balcony… but hey, whatever they have in mind, I’m sure to dig it!
An eclectic show to be sure, the kind you’re only liable to see on AEW Dark. I won’t be doing live play-by-play when it premieres tonight but you can expect a recap within an hour or so after the fact.
