– We have the first match announced for when AEW debuts on TNT, coming October 2nd! It will pit one of the three EVPs, “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes against the self-proclaimed “Best Ever” Sammy Guevara.
This unique matchup continues from where Cody left off at Fyter Fest. In between bouts with old names he’s closely associated with, like Dustin Rhodes and Shawn Spears, Cody genuinely seems to enjoy working with the younger crop of wrestlers and helping to elevate them in the eyes of the audience. It worked fairly well with Darby Allin and I can easily see the same occurring here.
Sammy G is a very promising, athletic talent from AAA. He’s also awkwardly arrogant in an obnoxious Youtube vlogger kind of way. Which is appropriate as he in fact has his own vlog on YouTube! And I mean this in a good way. He’s a fine heel for today’s culture and while not as loud a prospect as some other AEW standouts, he’s certainly one to watch.
This match isn’t quite thrown-together either. In relation to Sammy G’s Being The Elite gimmick of coming across like an insincere glad-handing douche, he once had a run-in with Cody. Known for his relation to MJF, who he’s dubbed the ‘Salt of the Earth’, Cody referred to Sammy as “Sh*t of the Earth”. This was in the midst of a tirade in which he made it clear he thinks very, very little of him as a person.

Sammy didn’t really seem to take any of his comments personally. But suffice to say, Cody will not be holding back when they get in the ring together. It’s going to be quite a chance for not just Sammy, but all of AEW to make their first impression before a whole new audience.
– In other AEW news, Marko Stunt has officially been signed. On his 23rd birthday, no less! Stunt revealed as much in a tweet earlier today:
It’s my 23rd birthday, and I can’t think of another way to celebrate, than by announcing something huge!

Marko was present in the Casino Royale back at the Double Or Nothing pre-show. He took one of the matches’ bigger bumps after being pounced by Ace Romero. He would later appear in a couple of BTE skits as well as accompany Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus to the ring at Fight For The Fallen. As depicted above, he took the opportunity to get a dive in as well.
Even in a day and age where the biggest stars of wrestling are smaller than ever, Stunt is an extremely diminutive worker. He’s listed as being 5’2 and around 140lbs, easily the lightest guy on AEW’s roster. In fact most of the women are actually larger than that in both height and weight. Combine this with his youthful features and he’s commonly said to resemble a pre-teen.
But he uses this to his advantage. He’s a big bumper and it’s very easy for him to get sympathy from a crowd. And by proxy it’s easy for others to get heat for beating on the poor boy. In addition to being part of an increasingly unique pairing with Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus, Marko could easily turn into the Mikey Whipwreck of his age. And that ain’t a bad thing at all.
