In All Elite Wrestling, Chris Jericho is looking to build some stars for the wrestling industry. He realizes that he won’t be around forever, and it is his duty to ensure that there are big names with him to thank for their success. One obvious one is Sammy Guevara, his protege in the Inner Circle. Another person who will benefit from Jericho is the star of The Jungle Express, ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry.
Jungle Boy Lasted Ten Minutes
Around the end of 2019, Chris Jericho had to have one more match for AEW before the year was through. It wouldn’t be a title match, but it would be the biggest of the young career of Jungle Boy. Jericho chose him as he was the lowest ranked man in the company, with no wins to his name. He viewed Jungle Boy as an easy target, someone he could easily beat and start planning for a New Years Celebration fitting of Le Champion. Jericho assured everyone he would beat Jungle Boy in 10 minutes. This would not be the case, as Jungle Boy would come prepared, and it wouldn’t fall easily, withstanding plenty of abuse until the 10 minute time limit hit. The Inner Circle would clash with The Jungle Express, notably on the JeriCruise until the story shifted to have Jon Moxley be their target.
Chris Jericho Confirms This Feud Would Have Been Revisted
No longer the AEW Champion but likely having been through Blood & Guts, the plan for AEW was for Jungle Boy to be revisted as an opponent for Chris Jericho. With the situation of COVID-19 shutting down major events, AEW has had to pivot and instead we are seeing Matt Hardy on the radar of Jericho. He would confirm these plans on Twitter, after Dave Meltzer said that angle needed a follow up. Jericho said the following. “Had the world not gone crazy, we would be revisiting that now.”
This is a feud that will be picked back up down the line, but for now the star of Jungle Boy will stay low.
