AEW as a promotion has both paved the way towards the future of wrestling, while also respecting the legends of the past. Names like Arn Anderson, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and Diamond Dallas Page all come to mind as legends who have found prominence in the company. That’s even ignoring their classic commentators like Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone. Even Bret Hart had a brief showing, when he was the one to show the AEW Championship at the 2019 edition of Double Or Nothing, before MJF cut a promo on him. However, there is one legend we will never see in this company, and that is Hulk Hogan.
Hulk Hogan Is Banned From AEW
This is known due to Tony Khan himself taking to Twitter and making it clear. After Hogan’s ex wife posted the following (the tweet has since been deleted, but it is archived by many with screenshots) “Watching the looting, it is all afro americans. Not sure how robbing and stealing set the record straight. But if they want to be heard they need to civilized.”
It’s not hard to see where the backlash came from, due to the racism and misinformation in that statement. AEW owner Tony Khan came in quick with the following. “You’ve now joined your husband in being banned from all AEW shows. Congratulations.”
This is the first mention of Hogan being banned from their events, but it implies this is nothing new for them.
Is This Mainly A Publicity Stunt From AEW?
With AEW wanting to come off as an all inclusive place to work, someone like Hulk Hogan was never likely to find a home amongst their roster. Fans also had no desire to see Hogan in AEW, few even want to see him in WWE at this point. With there being no demand for Hogan on their programming, stating he is banned simply serves to make AEW look good.
If this was the case, it worked for sure. Fans flocked to Khan and AEW to thank them for this move, likely an intended effect. It might have disgruntled some older fans of wrestling, but they weren’t likely to watch their product anyways.
