When the Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman non-title Wyatt Swamp Fight match at Horror Show: Extreme Rules was announced on WWE Smackdown, it had a few fans scratching our heads — sadly, that’s nothing new at this point.
It’s clear we’re going to get another cinematic match similar to WrestleMania 36’s Boneyard Match, so that just leaves the question to what to expect?
That’s something that’s going to have to wait until the pay-per-view, but we will get so see Bray Wyatt’s return to the Firefly Fun House to further push the rivalry between him and Strowman.
More mind games
We expect Wyatt to continue his mind games, even ramping them up even more to coax Strowman back into the black sheep position. Strowman has been adamant that he’s his own man, that he’s not going back to that dark place.
But he’s also shown signs that he’s starting to shift and become darker as has been the outcome of anyone crossing Wyatt’s path since his Fiend persona debuted a year ago.
To help move things along, we could see Wyatt as his different personas tonight. While a montage is expected, it’d be fitting and a nice change of pace if he went back to his previous antics and appeared in the ring behind Strowman.
This would be a fun even if Wyatt would say someone else is waiting, the lights go out, and the Fiend could appear behind Strowman. They could scuffle, of when Strowman attacks, the Fiend disappears and he’s alone in the ring.
It’d add another element to their storyline and leave Strowman grasping at who or what he’ll face exactly.
Story’s been lacking
For whatever reason, we haven’t seen much of a buildup between these two the last couple of weeks aside from re-airing a flashback promo and things like that, so it’ll be interesting to see just how much time and effort they put into this segment tonight.
We think it’ll probably end the show like it did when it when the Fiend was involved, and that’ll go a long way to building hype for the match.
Of course, given the WWE’s recent foray into the cinematic verse, they could simply be relying on people purchasing the event and not wanting to give away too much. It worked for WrestleMania with the Fiend and John Cena, so they may be banking on it to work that way here, too.
It’s one of the matches we’re curious about, but it would be nice to have something exciting to happen on WWE Smackdown to get us hyped.
