On the latest Talk is Jericho Podcast, Cody Rhodes was the special guest. In true Jericho podcast fashion we got some inside information of the company. This time around it was WWE getting put under the telescope. In the podcast, they went into detail of what AEW did well and what could be improved.
It is kind of surprising hearing one of the biggest wrestlers in AEW giving his thoughts on the company as a whole. One of the biggest moments of the podcast was what AEW could improve. It is similar to what Jericho thought recently as well. Meaning that really we could be seeing some big changes to AEW in the near future.
What Cody Rhodes had to say:
“To me, one of our biggest pros is also our biggest con, no pun intended. We have such freedom. So such freedom, sometimes, means that things are too similar on the same show. Well, this guy’s asking me to join Team FTW.
Well, this group, they’re asking if he’ll join in this. So that’s one of those areas where that freedom is fun and pro, they’re not worried about the traditional rules. It’s punk rock, but also, you have to be disciplined so that it doesn’t desensitize the show.
“Eight times out of ten, we’ve got the flow right, but on nights that we have and it’s where our own freedom has been our biggest enemy, but I’d rather that than a sanitized C+ show. To me, the thing we need to work on the most is not taking their freedom for granted and maybe a little bit more communication between the boys themselves. ‘Hey, I’m doing this. It doesn’t mean you can’t, but what else can you do? You’re super talented.’ I think that would go a long way.”
How could this change the company?
It has now been said by both Jericho and now Cody Rhodes. That freedom is a double edged sword. It is amazing seeing original ideas in a platform that has been around for so long.
Then there is the fact that sometimes some stories can accidentally run against each other and be too similar. This happens with both the Inner Circle and FTW having the same story in the same episode. It has only really happened once but it has been talked about multiple times and could be something that could change the company.
With all the people who are behind the story having better communication of what is running on what episode. Therefore keeping the freedom but also making sure segments are too similar on every episode.
