The WWE is being circled by fans and rumors like a shark circling a leaking life raft, so it’s rumored they’re throwing out a lifeline to John Cena and Roman Reigns for SummerSlam.
Where’s this coming from? We’re glad you asked.
This is pure speculation on our part, but as of now it doesn’t look like Roman Reigns will have a match at Hell in a Cell with three weeks to go.
Logically, it looks like he and Jimmy Uso are heading for a confrontation, but it doesn’t feel right for them to be in HIAC.
It feels more like Reigns will force Jey to face Jimmy and things will fracture before the pay-per-view.
Sportsninety reported that Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer claimed they were told Reigns and Jimmy wasn’t happening at HIAC, and they pointed out another match that’ll take their place.
Seth Rollins and Cesaro are tailormade to be a HIAC match, and given how Rollins likes to hit and run, it’d be perfect. It’ll also be the first time Rollins stepped in the cell after his debacle with the Fiend.
Or course, things can change as early as tonight’s Smackdown, so this whole thought process could be moot.
Saving Reigns for SummerSlam
One of the prevailing thoughts out there is Roman Reigns is being saved to face a returning John Cena at SummerSlam.
This is one of two high profile returns being kicked around by fans on social media as the other one is Brock Lesner will challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.
If the plan is to have Reigns face Cena, we could see it start to build for that as early as tonight. We think Reigns will pull something in the Uso’s challenge against the Msyterios for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.
When/if he does, it’ll set the stage where Cena could come out to defend the Usos from Reigns and end the night with an explosive return and confrontation.
They can then spend the next month and a half building Cena and Reigns instead of the rushed push they’ve been so intent on lately with other people.
It has potential to be a great matchup and show, and would help the WWE coffers swell, which is always a good thing for Vince McMahon. Especially if he’s looking to increase profit margins to sell.
What do you think? Will we get Roman Reigns and John Cena for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam? Let us know in the comments below.
