Ever since coming to AEW following his WWE contract ending, Bryan Danielson has been on fire to say the least. Danielson has went thirty minutes with Kenny Omega, traded blows with Minoru Suzuki, and even brought out the singles star in Nick Jackson. He’s been going hard in every single match, and even showed up for AEW Dark for one; or perhaps two, who knows who INFINITO is, matches. However, Danielson knows his limits, and knows that he needs to balance his schedule to protect himself.
Bryan Danielson Knows That Less Is More With Him And Matches
While speaking with WEEI in Boston, Danielson would go into detail on why having less matches could be important to him getting the most out of his AEW career.
“I’m a little more judicious, but, realistically, the big thing that has changed, and this was a choice when I resigned my last WWE contract and when I came to AEW, and one of the benefits of AEW, is that I need to be doing less matches because I like to go hard. If you tell me, ‘Go a little bit lighter today,’ it’s easy to say but in practice it doesn’t work like that. I don’t care if there are 20,000 people like at Arthur Ashe Stadium or if there are 85 people, and I’ve wrestled in front of less than a 100 people many times, the people still pay their money to see the show and you want to give them a great show. It’s hard for people like me to pull back. Really, it’s about doing a less number of matches per year and focusing on the quality of those matches and making sure I give the live crowd something they are happy they paid their money to see.”
People Don’t Pay To See Danielson Half Ass A Match
This is the perfect approach for someone like Danielson to take. Fans don’t pay to see him go out and half ass a five minute match, he’s a special attraction – you want to see his matches go into deep waters and give you something to remember. When his music hits and he’s got his trunks and boots on, you know you’re in for a treat.
That is something both AEW & Danielson can not afford to take lightly. Something they can’t waste. While it’s fun seeing him show up at tapings for Dark, is a match with Aaron Solo going to meet that hype? That’s yet to be seen, but we know that Danielson is being careful and picking his spots, so he hopefully will be around for years to come in AEW.
