With Kenny Omega being forced to vacate the AAA Mega Champion, ending his 765 day reign in the worst way possible – AAA has to name a new champion. While championships are far from the most important aspects of Lucha Libre, the AAA Mega Championship is their link to the greater wrestling scene, especially after Kenny Omega held it for so long. This allows them a chance to bring in extra viewers to their PPV events – and we could be seeing a big multiman match to name a new champion.

Lower Your Expectations For Announced Names, Possible Showing For Alberto El Patron?

This news comes from luchablog, a trusted source for information from the world of lucha libre. The update is not as exciting as it initially seems however, as they would note that in regards to names to expect.

“I’ve heard multiman as well and proposed names. I suggest that you take whatever your expectations are for the names and lower them. and then lower them again.”

This could be a strong hint towards Alberto El Patron. The former WWE & World Heavyweight Champion has had a rocky history, last being in the press for physically abusing a woman and nearly ending up in jail because of it. Despite this, he still gets work and remains a big name for those who aren’t aware of his happenings outside of the ring.

Matt Taven Is Another Option, El Hijo del Vikingo Will Be In

This could also indicate Matt Taven as an option. Despite being a smooth and talented worker, his win of the Ring of Honor Championship in Madison Square Garden just made fans hate him more. Taven however remains a popular name down in Mexico, to the point where CMLL cut ties with ROH due to Taven working a promotion run by RUSH & Dragon Lee… which never got to run it’s first show.

We can at the very least expect El Hijo del Vikingo in the match. He was the one originally set to face Kenny Omega for the title, and it wouldn’t make much sense for the talented young high flier – him being the one cofnrimed name in the coming five way. The best move would be to have him win the belt, but no one can predict what will come of this match.

Who do you hope to see in the mix for a new AAA Mega Champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
