Recently, fans of WWE’s NXT 2.0 brand got a welcome surprise when Apollo Crews would return to the brand on a full-time basis. After spinning his wheels on the WWE main roster, with some limited midcard title success being all he had to show for it – it was a welcome change. He’s already been fast at work starting up rivalries, and setting himself up as a future contender for the NXT & North American Championships. However, Crews leaving for NXT also meant it was time for a change with his enforcer – Commander Azeez.
Commander Azeez Is Back In NXT, Seen As BOdyguard Of Cora Jade At Live Event
Once known as Babatunde, Azeez is mainly notable in WWE for being a big man – which is generally something you want a few of on any given wrestling show. However, he is smaller than someone like Omos, and was lacking in in-ring skills. This makes his return to the NXT brand and the WWE Performance Center a great move, and he’s got a gimmick that might not require him to get into the ring for a while, giving him time to improve.
At a recent NXT 2.0 live event, he would be spotted alongside the recently turned Cora Jade – serving as her bodyguard. Jade was recently an NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, before she turned on her partner Roxanne Perez. She would come close to winning a title shot against Mandy Rose in a 20 woman Battle Royale, but was eliminated by Zoey Stark.
Having a bodyguard will really help Jade with her heel antics, as the cowardly heel is a classic character, and Jade could put a modern spin on it. Azeez looks impressively big alongside Jade as well, with the contrast in size really being a huge benefit. It’s unclear if this act is simply being tested out on live events, or will be brought to TV as soon as this coming Tuesday, but it’s a good use of both talents involved.
