We recently missed out on a title defence from ROH World Champion, Jonathan Gresham. This was set to go down at The WRLD on GCW, where Gresham would have defended against Blake Christian, but Gresham was not able to make the show. Lio Rush stepped in, and had one of the best matches of the night with Christian – and now we know what kept Gresham away.
Jonathan Gresham Has Tested Positive For COVID-19 – Will Miss Battle of Los Angeles 2022
Taking to Twitter to give fans an update ahead of the biggest indy wrestling tournament of 2022, Battle of Los Angeles 2022 – Gresham had the following to say.
“Unfortunately, I will not be making it to LA tomorrow for BOLA. I recently caught covid, and as a result, I had to miss GCW at the Hammerstein Ballroom. I am still testing positive as of today and don’t want to put any colleagues/fans in harm’s way.”
Gresham has promised to give Christian his shot for the ROH World Championship down the line. Fans are eager to see this match come together, but it will be hard to make up for missing Battle of Los Angeles. He was set to face Davey Richards in the opening round, and fans had expected Gresham to make his way all the way to the finals.
No Replacement Named Yet
A replacement has not yet been named for Gresham in the tournament, though he likely gave notice before now. PWG might choose to make his replacement a surprise, adding some extra excitement to fans. Once again, PWG refuses to stream this major show – and outside of the lucky fans who got tickets, we will need to wait for the DVD/Blu-Ray to release.
Fans are still waiting for the latest show, It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll) to arrive – with DVD’s just shipping out. There is seemingly no interest in changing how they distribute shows, with Super Dragon not keen on a streaming service. Fans still hope that Excalibur is able to convince SD to work alongside AEW to launch a joint streaming service.
