WWE United States Championship: Andrade (c) vs. Humberto Carrillo
This is a storied one, to be sure, lot of history here. It mostly dates back to a gauntlet match in which the both of them were involved, trying to earn a shot at the US title – which at the time, was held by legendary luchador Rey Mysterio. But whilst Carrillo was trying to actually win the thing, Andrade came out last and attacked him, ripping off a mat at ringside and Hammerlock DDT’ing him right onto it. The young man was stretchered out, and the match had no conclusion.
However the man formerly known as La Sombra was deemed the no. 1 contender regardless, with Rey vying to avenge the fallen Humberto. However, thanks in part to a beatdown from Seth Rollins, Akam & Rezar a night or so earlier, Rey Mysterio ended up losing the United States Championship to Andrade at a live event in Madison Square Garden. The new champion would go on to successfully defend his title in an exquisitely brutal ladder match against Mysterio.
However, afterwards, Andrade and Zelina Vega were still not done.
They tried to put Rey out of commission afterwards, in much the same way they did to Humberto. But then, a fan in a Mysterio mask jumped the barrier to stop this. And when he pulled off the mask, he revealed himself to be Carrillo! Now that he’s finally back from injury, he’s going after the United States title. He fights to avenge not only himself but Mysterio, and also to prove who the true future Latino superstar is.
This should be a great match and it is a rough one to call. I kinda struggle a bit going either way… but I think I’ll perhaps say Humberto Carrillo over. He’ll take the gold from Andrade eventually, if not tonight. But he just came back literally this week. You don’t wanna derail him with a loss this quickly.
